Subaru is a famous Japanese car manufacturer, which was established in 1953. Today the company is known for its powerful sedans and all-road cars, which are being distributed all over the globe. Subaru has a perfect reputation, as a producer of high-quality cars and engines.
Meaning and History
Subaru-Fuji Industries Ltd is the first Japanese car maker, which uses the name taken from the native language. The group of stars of the logo in its original name sounds as mutsuraboshi (in translation from Japanese, it means “in the constellation of the Taurus”).
The constellation of the Taurus, also known as “Seven Sisters,” has seven stars, six stars represent five companies, which consolidated after the Second World War to form one large company shown in one big star.
The Fuji Heavy Industries Company arose in the merger of six companies, inter alia, Toyota. The cars Renault became the basis for the first Subaru autos. The word Subaru also means “call together” in Japanese. Subaru remains a highly developed company for many years.
Subaru has admirers who sincerely believe that other cars of the same type do not exist. All the matter is in its features, for which a bid was made already in the fiftieth years of the XXth century: Subaru manufactures cars with flat engines and the firm system of four-wheel drive. Hence the glory of the manufacturer of low-end cars with characteristics of sport cars derives.
1953 – 1980
The original Subaru badge, introduced in 1953, has stayed with the Japanese automaker for almost thirty years. It featured a flat monochrome composition with six four-pointed stars, connected by thin lines, enclosed into a horizontally-stretched oval frame.
1953 – 1958
Another badge, created for Subaru in 1953, used the same composition but was executed in glossy three-dimensional silver lines, with smooth gradients and shiny surfaces of all elements. This emblem was placed on the bonnets of Subaru cars until 1958.
1958 – 1959
With the redesign of 1958, the silver badge gets gold, and the oval gets extended horizontally, making the whole logo larger, hence the stars got larger too. The six four-pointed Subaru stars were Joe drawn with longer and thicker triangular rays, and the connection lines between them got longer too.
1959 – 1970
The redesign of 1959 brought back the silver start and outline but added a solid red background to the smooth bright badge of the Japanese automaker. The start got smaller, and the connection lines — were thinner, so more negative space appeared on the badge, making red a dominating color.
1970 – 1980
In 1970 the color palette of the Subaru logo was switched to dark blue and white. It now looked like a night sky, with the background of the oval badge decorated with small white dots. This was the last Subaru badge with the thin connection lines between the stars.
1980
For just a few months, in 1980, the badge of the Japanese automaker featured a bold silver outline, with the six heavy silver stars outlined in gray, and set on transparent background with no connecting lines.
1980 – 2003
Later, in 1989, the badge got redesigned again. The new logo was placed on a dark glossy background, with the outline and the stars getting thinner and more elegant. The stars featured elongated pointed lines, and due to their glossy surface looked exquisite and chic.
2003 – 2019
The redesign of 2003 introduced a new color palette of the Subaru badge and added bold black uppercase lettering to the composition. The new emblem was executed in a bright and pretty dark shade of blue, with the glossy surface embedded with six silver stars with smooth contours.
2019 – now
In 2019 the shade of the Subaru badge gets lighter and softer, which made the silver stars and outline look brighter. As for the black uppercase logotype, placed under the graphical part of the badge, it kept the size and style of the previous version.
Symbol Description
The Subaru logo contains six stars visible to a naked eye from the star cluster of the Pleiades, favorite since the ancient times in Japan.
Color
The blue color of the Subaru logo features excellence and reliability of the Subaru cars. The silver and black colors stand for their sophistication, elegance, creativity, and excellence.
Font
The bold capitalized inscription from the primary Subaru badge is set in a heavy modern sans-serif typeface, which looks strong and brutal. The closest fonts to the one, used for the Subaru insignia are, probably, Unison Pro Bold and Miedinger Bold.
Emblem
The Subaru emblem incorporates the modified form of the Microgramma type of letters.
“Think. Feel. Drive” are the words of the firm`s slogan. These words were chosen not without reason: Subaru’s engineers have fruitfully worked on the program of cars optimization. Thus, there is hope in the company, which with similar costs the new cars will surpass predecessors in comfort of driving, an ecological compatibility, and economy.
Two concept cars of Subaru are at the point of progress: B5-TPH and IVX-II. They are fitted with the most modern solutions.
Subaru B5-TPH is constructed by the classic petrol electro diagram: its electric motors energized from a generator set the car in motion, but the generator is rotating at the expense of the 2.0-liter reverse turbo engine, which, also can directly participate in the rotation of wheels. Subaru B5-TPH is fit with the firm system of Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (AWD), which allows achieving outstanding manageability on slippery roads` coatings. The manageability is also created by the road clearance of 200 mm and by the wheels of large diameter.
Subaru WRX logo
The Subaru WRX is a high-performance version of the Subaru Impreza WRX. In addition to the “boxer” flat-four engines that the mainstream Impreza has, the WRX and WRX STI versions have turbochargers. Cars from the performance-oriented range are recognizable by their badge. In addition to the “Impreza” inscription characteristic of all the vehicles from the Impreza line, Subaru WRX logo includes capital letters “WRX.”
