Janus is the name of a relatively young motorcycle manufacturer, which was established in the United States in 2011, and released its first bike two years later, in 2013. Today the brand also specialized in the production of motorcycle parts.
Motorcycle History
A young and progressive company, Janus Motorcycles, was born in the USA, Indiana, in 2011. From the very beginning, it specializes in making motorcycles with the retro style of the 1920s—1930s of the last century.
Devin Biek and Richard Worsham, the company’s founders, take inspiration from vintage motorcycles and try to adopt their family traits. The first model, which was released in 2013, is the Halcyon 50. It reminds Brough motorcycles with their polished fuel tank. Halcyon 50 is powered by a 50 CC water-cooled two-stroke engine with a six-speed gearbox. There’s no rear suspension, a wide steering wheel, a leather bicycle-style seat, and 18-inch wheels.
Devin Biek, one of the brand’s founders, has one more motorcycle-related business. He produces tuning for bikes and scooters and has a lot of experience with small-block engines.
Janus Motorcycles is a small American company that produces vintage motorcycles. The company’s workforce is small, with only five craftsmen producing frames and fuel tanks. The rest of the details and work such as fenders, machining, and chrome plating are done by other local firms.
Brand Logo
Janus is a young company but focused on a retro design, and the visual identity of the brand is all about traditional shapes and elegance. The emblem of Janus is composed of a stylized JJ monogram, enclosed intro a circular frame, made of a leaves wreath. The bold and confident logotype is placed on the right from the emblem and underlined with “American Motorcycles” lettering in all capitals of a simple yet clean sans-serif typeface.
Emblem and Symbol
The Janus emblem boasts two hand-drawn letters “J”, placed back-to-back, and forming a figure, reminding letter “M”, which stands for “Motorcycles”. The design is simple in its idea but perfect in its execution. Bold clean lines with playful tails and pointed ends of the letters look modern and sophisticated at the same time. And the wreath around the letters symbolizes success and victories.
Font and Color
Janus logotype is set in the uppercase and executed in a stylish and fine sans-serif typeface with solid shapes of the letters. The first and the last letters of the wordmark are slightly enlarged, which creates a sense of invisible framing, making the logo complete and balanced. The Janus typeface is pretty similar to such fonts as Optima Pro Bold and Mitra Bold.
As for the color palette, here brand also chooses the most elegant and timeless monochrome combination, which makes it possible to place the logo on any background without losing its chic style.
The Legends
The Halcyon 50 Deluxe motorcycle is the flagship model of Janus Motorcycles and the most famous one. Halcyon, capable of 90 km/h speed, has a rigid tubular frame, a liquid-cooled two-stroke engine, a 6-speed gearbox, and a hydraulic fork. It comes with additional accessories: leather bags, leather saddle, polished aluminum tank, hydraulic fork, hand painting, etc. The motorcycles are made to order only, so available in any possible color combinations.
