Mahindra is one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers. The Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra was founded in 1945, a few years later it began licensing production of agricultural machinery. Currently, it is one of the largest automakers in India, the company specializes in the production of SUVs, pickup trucks, crossovers, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles.
Motorcycle History
The history of the Indian automaking brand begins during the Second World War when the Mahindra brothers decided to establish automobile production in India. One of the two brothers, John, was the head of the Indian diplomatic mission in Washington at the time. For the sake of entrepreneurship, he gave up his diplomatic career and founded Mahindra and Mohammed. The second brother, Clark, was at the same time the First Deputy Minister of Finance of Pakistan. He got involved in the implementation of his brother’s plans.
So, the company Mahindra & Mahindra in 1945 began production of Indian analogs of the famous all-terrain vehicle Willys-Overland. As for the regular cars, they managed to produce the first one only in 1965. But since then things were going only up, and the company started growing fast and confident.
As for the Motorcycle division of Mahindra, there are three main models in the brand’s portfolio, but it is not the most important. In 2016 Mahindra bought BSA, a legendary bike brand. Before that, no special plans for the motorcycle brand were announced – and finally, the company’s management announced that there will be a new production facility in Oxford, where the first two models will roll off the assembly line. The release is scheduled for next year, with one model will be on the internal combustion engine, and another – on electric traction.
Mahindra company has a great experience in the revival of legendary brands — they have already managed to revive Czech motorcycle brand Jawa. Interestingly, the motorcycles will be produced in Britain and not usual China. Analysts predict the success of this venture and future buyers are waiting for the release of the prototype.
In 2018, the legendary Jawa was revived by Mahindra. the company has managed to retain the classic archaic style of the iconic European brand from the 1950s.
The Mahindra version of Jawa is available in three modifications: two classic (Jawa and Jawa Forty-Two) and Jawa Perak (peculiar bobber), already equipped with another engine in 334 CC. The first two variants are equipped with the engine from Mahindra Mojo, which is stylized as air, liquid-cooled engine 293 CC in volume and performance of 27 hp and 28 Nm of torque. Interesting, that it is the same engine Peugeot chosen for their new small concept cars P2X, and it says a lot.
1948 – 1966
The vintage logo from this period features a stylized hand gripping a tool, creatively represented by two vertically aligned “M” letters that resemble fingers holding an implement. This design emphasizes themes of technical mastery and precision, symbolizing a company deeply immersed in engineering and manufacturing. The clever incorporation of letters to form the hand reinforces the brand’s identity while ensuring it remains unique and memorable.
1966 – 2000
The logo appeared soon after the company was founded. It appeared to be drawn using charcoal pencil and was done in black and gray colors. The base resembled a wheel with multiple lines going off of a smaller circle in the center. The center was divided into four parts with a horizontal bar going across almost the whole logo. It featured the name “Mahindra” printed in dark gray using cursive writing. There was some resemblance to the BMW logo.
2000 – 2012
With a start of a new century, a new logo was presented. It looked very different from the emblem used for more than 50 years. However, the designers preserved the style of the name inscription, only making the lines cleaner and the letters more defined. It was also done in gray color to further enhance the association with a recognizable brand image. The new element consisted of a red and white oval shape with a road going from the lower left corner diagonally across it. This image was done to have a perspective and gave the emblem a feeling of movement, speed, and a chance to imagine all the great roads one could explore on Mahindra vehicles.
2012 – 2023
In 2012, the graphic emblem was removed from Mahindra’s primary logo. The new badge highlighted a bright red logotype in a geometric, futuristic typeface. The red color signified passion and strength, making this concise design stand out among competitors.
2021 – now
The new emblem could be interpreted as a stylized letter “M” which stands for the name of the automaker. It was formed from two mirror-image 3D shapes that pointed in the opposite upper corners and were flat on the bottom. Their metallic silver color made the logo look very stylish.
2023 – Today
The current logo is a minimalist and modern design featuring two symmetrical arcs merging at the center to form an abstract “M.” Its bold, clean lines create a contemporary feel, with the black color lending it visibility and assertiveness. This emblem reflects Mahindra’s commitment to clarity, simplicity, and innovation, showcasing the company’s leading role in the industry.
Emblem and Symbol
The emblem of the Indian brand is a stylized letter “M”, which looks like three lines merging into the frame, and resemble the road going to the horizon. These three versions of the Mahindra badge interpretation make sense and show the company as the one with its philosophy and values.
Font and Color
The Mahindra logotype is written in a custom typeface, based on a traditional al sans-serif, but with the ends of the letter curved to the left, which makes the whole inscription look unique and recognizable. The closes font to the one from the Mahindra logo is Arial Std Black, though with the contours modified and lines elongated.
The badge of the brand is executed in a red and gray color palette, which looks simple and elegant at the same time. While Ted stands for strength and passion, ray balances it, adding a sense of reliability and protection.

Mahindra Moho has a DOHC, liquid-cooled engine, inverted fork suspension with mono-shock absorber, LED lights on the rear, and tandem headlights at the front.
